Dominic Stricker, Benoît Paire and Lucas Pouille among Dialectic Zug Open entry list

The entry list for the Dialectic Zug Open (ATP Challenger 125) from 21-28 July 2024 has been announced. In addition to Stricker, who is playing his first tournaments after a long injury break, and three-time ATP tournament winner Paire, other well-known names from the ATP Tour will also be competing at Tennisclub Zug. Thanks to Lucas Pouille, as in the two previous years by Ernests Gulbis and Fabio Fognini, the main draw will once again be joined by a former ATP top ten player. The top seed is Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (ATP 97).

Dominic Stricker (ATP 149), Zug Open winner in 2022, experienced a tennis autumn in the fast lane last year. But after reaching the fourth round at the US Open (including a win against Stefanos Tsitsipas) and reaching the Next Gen ATP Finals, a back injury brought Stricker's steep rise to an abrupt halt. With little match practice since his comeback in June and after losing in the first round at Wimbledon, the Zug Open will serve Stricker this year as a benchmark: «The most important thing for me at the moment is to find my level, get into the match rhythm and simply enjoy the fact that I'm back on the tour. It feels really good to be playing pain-free matches again and doing what I've been missing for six months», says Stricker.

Strong French squad

Lucas Pouille – former ATP 10 – is travelling to Lake Zug as an ATP 500 winner (Vienna 2017) and with a total of 5 ATP titles and 9 appearances in finals. In his career, the 30-year-old Frenchman has reached semi-finals at the Australian Open and quarter-finals at Wimbledon and the US Open. He caused a stir in Flushing Meadows in 2016 when he surprisingly defeated Rafael Nadal in five sets in the round of 16. Pouille’s compatriot Benoît Paire (ex ATP 18) also has an impressive palmarès with 3 ATP and 8 Challenger titles. Known as an illustrious figure on the tennis circuit, Paire will do his utmost to entertain the Zug audience with his tennis. Matteo Martineau, Quentin Halys and Maxime Janvier complete a quintet of participants from the «Grande Nation».

The main contenders for the title at Tennisclub Zug are top seed Botic van de Zandschulp (ATP 97) from the Netherlands, Italy’s Matteo Gigante (ATP 135) and the two Argentinians Juan Manuel Cerundolo (ATP 139) and Roman Andres Burruchaga (ATP 142).

Six players will reach the main draw via the qualifying round. The tournament organisation also has three main draw wildcards at its disposal. Two of these, Jérôme Kym and Remy Bertola, have already been awarded to young Swiss Tennis juniors. Top Swiss talents Henry Bernet, 17-year-old quarter-finalist at the 2024 Junior French Open, Dylan Dietrich, Mika Brunold and Jeffrey von der Schulenburg will receive a wildcard for the qualifying round.

Centre Court extension and night session tennis

The Zug Centre Court will be expanded for the 2024 tournament: A south stand behind the baseline will provide a new perspective on the tennis action and create a larger stadium feeling. The total capacity will be increased to almost 1,000 spectators. In addition, night session matches are now scheduled from Monday, 22 July to Friday, 26 July, with matches starting at 20:00.

The diverse field of participants and the expanded infrastructure promise an exciting week of tournaments at the summer boutique tournament in Central Switzerland. Co-tournament director Gaston Della Casa is delighted: «The entry list reflects the philosophy of our tournament: established top players meet the stars of tomorrow. With the wildcards for the main draw and the qualifiers, we are also giving young Swiss talents the chance to gain their first experience at ATP Challenger level.»
