Dialectic Zug Open

The Dialectic Zug Open is the fourth largest ATP professional tournament in Switzerland after Basel (ATP 500), Geneva and Gstaad (ATP 250 each). It was held for the third time in July 2024 at the Tennisclub Zug (clay court). Jerome Kym won the biggest title of his career to date with a 6:4, 6:4 victory over Roman Andres Burruchaga (ARG) in the final. Thanks to the 125 points he won, he moved into the top 200 of the world rankings. 2022 champion Dominic Stricker (SUI), top seed Botic van der Zandschulp (NED), Benoit Paire (FRA) and Matteo Gigante (ITA) all crashed out early in the tournament. Gstaad finalist Quentin Halys (FRA) reached the last 16. Just 17-year-old Henry Bernet (SUI) caused a stir by reaching the quarter-finals, which he lost to compatriot Marc-Andrea Hüsler. Two former ATP top ten players, Ernests Gulbis (LAT) and Fabio Fognini (ITA), took part in Zug in 2022 and 2023.

ATP Challenger Tour

Founded in 1978, the ATP Challenger Tour is a series of international professional tennis tournaments for men. They form the substructure of the ATP Tour, while they have higher prize money than the tournaments of the ITF Future Tour, where tennis players usually start their careers. The Challenger Tour is primarily used by players outside the top 100 of the world rankings to collect enough ranking points to participate in tournaments on the ATP Tour and the Grand Slams. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic also earned ATP points in this way before becoming figureheads and legends of the sport. Carlos Alcaraz was still playing Challenger tournaments in 2021 before winning his first ATP title in the same year, and the US Open title in 2022 made him the youngest ATP World No. 1 of all time. In 2023, 196 ATP challenger tour events were held in 46 countries in front of 885,000 spectators, with prize money totalling $21.1 million.
