Fabio Fognini and Dominic Stricker on the entry list for the Zug Open 2023

The entry list for the Zug Open (ATP Challenger Tour 125) from 23-30 July 2023 has been announced. In addition to Fognini, the former ATP world number 9, and Stricker, who played strongly at Wimbledon, other well-known names from the ATP Tour will also be playing at Tennisclub Zug.

Fabio Fognini is coming to Lake Zug as ATP Masters 1000 winner (Monte Carlo 2019) and with a total of 9 ATP titles. In an illustrious career, the triumph in the principality on the Mediterranean stands out. However, the 36-year-old Italian has also left his mark on the ATP Tour at many other times. His five-set victory over Rafael Nadal at the 2015 US Open, where he inflicted one of only three career defeats on the Spaniard after leading in two sets, is unforgettable.
Apart from Fognini, only Roger Federer (Miami 2005) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (Australian Open 2021) have managed this. In general, Fognini has an impressive record against the 14-time Roland Garros champion Nadal with 3 wins on clay (4 in total). The Italian has only the best memories of Switzerland: In 2017, he won the Swiss Open Gstaad with a wild card.

Stricker from «sacred grass» to the Zug clay courts

Last year’s winner from Bern, Dominic Stricker, arrives in Central Switzerland in strong form and with plenty of self-confidence. After qualifying for a Grand Slam main draw for the first time in Paris, he was able to repeat this at the grass court tournament in Wimbledon. At the Zug Open 2022, Stricker celebrated the biggest title of his young career in the Challenger 125 tournament against the Latvian Ernests Gulbis (former ATP world number 10).

The 27-year-old Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech achieved his highest career ranking in the ATP world rankings at the end of 2022 with position 42. With a total of seven appearances at Grand Slam tournaments and one ATP 250 final played (Adelaide 2022), he is one of the main contenders for the Zug title, with six players reaching the main draw via the qualifying round. The tournament organisation also has three wildcards at its disposal.
