Switzerland's Jerome Kym and Argentina's Roman Andres Burruchaga will play the final of the Dialectic Zug Open 2024 tomorrow, Sunday, July 28, starting at 3:30 pm.
A sunny and eventful week at TC Zug is coming to an end. The first few days were characterized by big surprises. The number 1, 2 and 4 seeds all suffered first-round defeats. Top seed Botic van der Zandschulp (NED) lost to Mika Brunold (SUI) in a hard-fought three sets, while Italy's Matteo Gigante was beaten by Australia's Omar Jasika. Juan Manuel Cerundolo (ARG) was Jerome Kym's starting opponent.
The 21-year-old from Rheinfelden (ATP 278) won clearly (6:4 6:0), and didn't miss a beat in the second round either: 6:4 7:6 against Kamil Majchrzak. The quarter-final then turned out to be a veritable battle of attrition. In very hot temperatures, Kym beat Marko Topo (GER) in 3h18. There was no sign of fatigue, and a clear semi-final victory against last year's finalist Joris De Loore (BEL) followed.
Roman Andres Burruchaga, son of Argentina’s 1986 World Championship final scorer Jorge Burruchaga, started the tournament with a very close and intense match against Dylan Dietrich (SUI, Q). After fending off match points, the Argentinian took the victory after more than three hours (6:7 7:5 7:6). This was followed in his top half of the draw by two rather easy victories against Alexander Blockx (BEL) and Jordanian Abdullah Shelbayh.
In today’s semi-final, he faced Marc-Andrea Hüsler from Zurich in the night session. Despite losing the first set, Burruchaga took the victory and thus made it through to tomorrow’s grand final (15:30, Tennisclub Zug). Beforehand, a wheelchair tennis exhibition match will take place on the center court at 14:00.
Tickets are available online and at the box office.
