The 21-year-old from Fricktal won the biggest title of his professional career to date with a 6:4, 6:4 victory in the final against Argentinian Roman Andres Burruchaga (ATP 148).
In front of an impressive crowd on the Zug Centre Court, Jerome Kym showed the same attacking tennis as in the previous rounds, in which a strong service performance once again stood out. Even trailing 1:3 in the second set, he did not abandon his game plan of consistently looking for the points offensively and putting his opponent under pressure. The fighting element played an important role in almost all of his Zug matches and did not let him down in the final. After a quarter-final against Marko Topo (GER) that lasted more than three hours, in which Kym fended off seven match points, and a relaxed semi-final victory, the Swiss never came under serious threat in the final. After 1 hour and 37 minutes, Jerome Kym lifted the winner's trophy into the Zug sky.
‘It’s been an incredible week for me in Zug. The fans have created a great atmosphere this week and especially today. When you play a tournament in Switzerland, go far or reach a final like I did today, it always feels like a Davis Cup atmosphere. That spurs me on even more to feel comfortable on the court and show my best tennis,’ said the happy winner. The Zug title comes just a short time after Kym’s first Challenger triumph, which he celebrated in Prostejov (CZE) in June. Thanks to the 125 world ranking points gained for winning the tournament, Jerome Kym will move ahead of Marc-Andrea Hüsler (ATP 202) and Dominic Stricker (ATP 186) in the rankings to ATP world number 181. He is therefore the fourth-best Swiss player behind Leandro Riedi (114), Alexander Ritschard (133) and Stan Wawrinka (144). He started the 2024 tennis year as number 485 in the world. By winning the Dialectic Zug Open, Kym also secured his place in the US Open qualifiers.
